Ruth (Hostler) Allen was born in Grafton, West Virginia. She met Norvell Christian Allen, and they married at Independence, Missouri on May 20, 1932. They lived in Kirksville, Missouri.
Ruth held a B.S. (American College of PE Chicago) and Master's (Teachers College of Columbia University, NY) in Physical Education and taught at Nowata and Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Kirksville Public Schools and Northeast Missouri State Teachers College.
Ruth was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and a charter member of the Northeast Missouri Trail Riders. She was an avid bridge player and achieved the American Contract Bridge League rank of Life Master in 1982, Wichita, Kansas, She enjoyed fishing for bass at her cottage on Spring Lake. She always worked with husband Norvell to help plan the Northeast Missouri Fair each year.
Norvell taught agriculture classes at Kirksville Public Schools and later at Northeast Missouri State University (Now Truman State University) for 23 years. He completed a B.S. and Master's in agriculture, dairy science at University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a member of the Northeast Missouri Fair Association Board and the publicity department of the Missouri State Fair for many years.
