Theron Beatty, Dies Friday
J. Theron Beatty, 74, a well-known retired teacher, died Friday (May 25, 1973) at the Richland Hospital after a six-week illness.
He was born June 23, 1898, in the Woodstock area of Richland County. He was the son of Wayne and Winnie Gault Beatty. He married the former Grace Gillingham in 1926.
Mr. Beatty began teaching in a rural school in Sabin in 1917. In 1918, he entered World War I and when he returned from service he resumed his teaching career in the rural schools of the county. In 1926, he started to teach in the Richland Center schools, and then taught in the junior and senior high until his retirement in 1963, after having taught two generations of many families.
As a World War 1 veteran, he was very active in the American Legion and served as the Commander of the Bayard DeHart Post in 1933. He also was a member of the 40 et 8 and the Last Man's Club. He was a 50-year member of the local Masonic Lodge and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, the former Grace Gillingham, Richland Center; three daughters, Marilyn, Mrs. Clinton White, Platteville, Ruth, Mrs. James Holl, Madison, and Sandra, Mrs. Eugene Schmitz, Richland Center; a brother, Foster, Gillingham; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Ferguson, Gillingham, and Mrs. David Hoskins, Richland Center; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday in the Lunenschloss Hansen Funeral Home with the Rev. David Passet officiating and burial was in the Richland Center Cemetery.
Military graveside rites were conducted by the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
