Children per 1850 census: William Charles (Apr 22, 1821-Jul 31,1896), Woodbury Storer (Jun 25, 1829-Jul 10,1911), Susan Caroline (Mar 29,1832-May 12,1916), Abby F ( b.ca 1845). Sergeant John Simon How served in the War of 1812 Service in Captain Joseph How's Company, Lieut. Col. M. Nichols' Regiment. From Sept. 2 to Sept. 19, and Sept. 26 to Oct. 3, 1814. Raised at Portland, Maine. Service at Portland in the summer and fall of 1814, as British forces surged down the coast.
After his death, surviving spouse, Susan, applied for a 'War of 1812' land grant pension. Bounty Land Warrant # 27296 160 55.
A son, John Pierpont How, was in the Civil War and after disability resided in the Dayton Soldiers' Home 1881-1887.
