| Birth: | Jul. 20, 1890 | | Death: | Dec. 14, 1966 | Actress. She played the maid in the "Lucy Gets A Maid" episode of "I Love Lucy." Verna Felton was probably best known for the role of "Hilda Crocker" on the 1950's TV series "December Bride" which starred Spring Byington. She also played in episode #45 of "I Love Lucy" as "Mrs. Simpson" a woman who had sales resistance when Lucy tried to re-sell her Handy Dandy vacuum cleaner. This great scene has been cut from the reruns shown on TV. Back when animated films preferred largely unknown actors to voice major parts, Ms. Felton was the "Go-To" voice actor for Walt Disney during the 1940s. She originated more prominent characters in Disney films than perhaps any other performer except the great Sterling Holloway. Her roles include the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, Flora, the ("Make it Pink!") Good Fairy in Sleeping Beauty and the Mother Elephant in The Jungle Book. Usually cast as the kindhearted matron, she also voiced memorable villainess characters such as the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland and the haughty Alpha-Female Elephant in Dumbo.
