Lawrence Crosbie Ely, 84 of Washington, died Thursday July 15, 1976 in the Washington Hospital. he was born May 21, 1892 in Buffalo Township, a son of Walter J. and Margaret Crosbie Ely. A resident of Buffalo Township his entire life where he operated a farm, he was a member of the East Buffalo Presbyterian Church and served as an elder and trustee for many years, and a member of Buffalo Grange 1523. A veteran of World War I, he served 19 months in the A.E.F. Surviving are his widow, Martha McCalmont Ely, whom he married October 14, 1920; a daughter, Helen Lucille, wife of Edgar Sweany, Fredricktown; one son, James Walter Ely, Washington, and five grandchildren. A brother, Alexander Ely; a sister, Mildred Bennett and a grandson, Larry Ely, are deceased. Services will be in the Stewart F Barnhill Funeral Home on Saturday July 17 by the Rev. Donald G. Parker, pastor of the East Buffalo Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery. - Observer Reporter, July 16, 1976.
