Rosa was born in Isabela, Puerto Rico, and grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She attended the University of Puerto Rico and received her bachelor's degree in business education. During World War II, she met Robert M. Richardson, a native Texan, whom she later married.
They were married 62 years and she was a devoted wife and mother, passionate about helping others. She volunteered in the greater community instilling her family with a sense of service and care to others. Rosa was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, and numerous organizations including A&M Garden Club, Officer Wives Club, the Pink Ladies of St. Joseph Hospital, The League of Women Voters, and the Latin Club.
She retired from Texas A&M after working many years in different capacities from teaching Spanish, editing manuscripts, translating, and finally, an executive secretary for the History Department.
Rosa loved to get together with family and friends. She enjoyed travel, quilting, reading and playing bridge with lifelong friends. She loved to cook, and was constantly exploring new cuisines through the Gourmet Club.
She is survived by her children, Randy Richardson of Austin, Zaida Bélendez of Lexington, Ken., René Richardson of Manhattan Beach, Calif. and Desireé Huffman of Austin; along with her eight grandchildren, Regina Richardson, Alex Beléndez DeSha, Adriana Richardson Sjoberg, Pilar Beléndez DeSha, Vivienne Richardson, Kyle Huffman, Kesley Huffman and Leland Huffman.
She was the jewel of our family, a gracious and brave lady, who lived through war, peace, and cultural changes. She lived with great dignity and enjoyment of life. We will miss her greatly.
