Billy Edward Black of Sandy Ridge Road, Corbin, Kentucky departed this life on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Kentucky. He was born February 3, 1953 in Harlan County, Kentucky to the late Willard J. Black & Montine Jump Black. He retired from the U.S. Army. He received the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Southeast Asia Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Expert Badge Rifle M-16, Army Commendation Medal (3D OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3D OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal 7 (AWD), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Non-Commission Officer Professional Development Ribbon & Vietnam Service Medal.
He is survived by 2 sons, Shaun Black of Corbin, Kentucky & Hokyun Kang of El Paso, Texas; a grandson, Jacob Kang of El Paso, Texas; 4 sisters, Marianne Easley of Corbin, Kentucky, Jean Storms & husband Bobby of Corbin, Ky., Sue Croley & husband Dennis of Corbin, Kentucky, & Joyce Storms & husband Tommy of Woodbine, Kentucky; 2 brothers, Ronnie Black of Corbin, Kentucky & Terry Black of Louisville, Kentucky; several nieces & nephews and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be after 6 P.M. Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 1 P.M. Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Craig Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Davis Cemetery in Rockholds, Kentucky.
Military Graveside Honors will be conducted Graveside by the American Legion Post 88, Corbin, Ky.
