Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on October 19, 2011.
Dad was born in Shelby, Montana on July 21, 1932 to John Deloy and Mildred Hatch Carter. He was the first of twelve children. He graduated from Olympus Jr. and Granite High and went on to graduate in Business from the University of Utah.
His love was missionary work. He served in the Swiss Austrian Mission from 1953-1956. While serving there, he met his future bride, Sister Nadine Von Niederhausern. Dee and Nadine were married on June 11, 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
While raising a young family, Dad served thirty-five years in the Army Reserve and retired a Lt. Col. He, like his father, was a builder and contractor and built his family home along with many other homes in the Salt Lake Valley.
He worked as a Purchasing Agent at U&I Sugar, Ireco Chemical, and Hill Air Force Base. While working at Hill Air Force Base, Dad and Mom were transferred for eighteen months to the base in Iraklion, Crete just before his retirement.
Dee and Nadine went on to serve for eighteen months in the Freiberg, Germany and eighteen months in the Washington, DC LDS Temple Missions. Dad served for many years in the Jordan River and Salt Lake temples.
They are the parents of six children: Denine (Ray) Driggs, Bonnie (Ed) Johnson, John David (Veray) Carter, Dan F. (Karen) Carter, Mark N. (Shonte) Carter, and Jeff (Audrey) Carter, along with thirty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank all those for the special care given to Dad over the last several months with special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Atria Assisted Living Center in Sandy.
