George R. "Bud" Warren, age 81, of 101 Davis Hill Road died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at VA Medical Center in Asheville.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Chester and Mamie Jones Warren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Hyde Warren who died in December 2004; four brothers, Hugh, Lester, Jack and David Warren and two sisters, Evelyn and Jessie Lee.
He loved to fish and watch western films. In his earlier years, he also loved to bowl. He was a member of VFW Post 5202 and a United States Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by two daughters, Sherry Norris of the home and Kathy Doughton and her husband, Joe of Memphis, TN; a son, Jerry Warren and his wife, Judy of Tuckasegee, NC; seven grandchildren, Christy Wilson and her husband, Eric, April Warren, Jennifer Proffitt and her husband, Wade, Amie Hall, Wendy Henson and her husband, Chad, Stacy Doughton and his wife, Kelli and Justin Doughton and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Johnny Norris officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by VFW Post 5202. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Chad Henson, Wade Proffitt, Eric Wilson, Bubba Evans, Bill Sawyer and Dennis Linn.
