J. H. BRYAN IS DEATH VICTIM

J. H. Bryan, 70, of 2012 Main street, died in a hospital here at 9:30 o'clock Thursday night after a long illness. He was owner of real estate here, but had not been active in business in several years. He had been in the hospital nearly two weeks.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the First Methodist church with Dr. L. N. Lipscomb, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lubbock cemetery under direction of Sanders Funeral home.

TO LUBBOCK IN 1910

The oldest son of the large family of Mr. and Mrs. Y. L. Bryan, he was born at Brundidge, Ala., Aug. 4, 1868. Thirty years later, to the day, he was married to Gertrude Van Arnam at Fitzgerald, Ga., and moved to Tifton, Ga., where he became superintendent of a peach orchard. He lived 12 years at Louisville. Ky., where he operated at pleating office, relatives said.

He came to Lubbock in April, 1910, but moved away in 1917. From that time until he returned in 1923 he was engaged in the oil and the mercantile business. He returned to Lubbock to look after his real estate business here.
Until 1934 he was active in civic circles. That year his health became bad and after two major surgical operations he retired from active business.

Other than his wife, he is survived by a son, C. L. Bryan of Dallas; a daughter, Miss Sue Bryan of Lubbock; and the following brothers and sisters: Albert Bryan, Mrs. Maude Reddock, Mrs. Leon Heims, Mrs. U. F. Preston, Miss Claude Bryan and Miss Leila Bryan, all of Brundidge, S. Bryan of Tifton, Dr. L. Bryan of Greenville, Ala., and Mrs. Grady Tucker of Campbellton, Fla.

Pallbearers will be H. W. Stanton, Sam C. Arnett, I. S. Doak, E. T. Pope, Charles R. Bacon and Neil H. Wright.
