Harry Pinckney Huse
Birth: Dec. 8, 1858
West Point
Orange County
New York, USA
Death: May 14, 1942

Mexican Campaign Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He was awarded the Medal of Honor while serving as Captain of the USS Vermont (BB-20). His citation reads: For distinguished conduct in battle, engagements of Vera Cruz, 21 and 22 April 1914. Under fire, Capt. Huse was eminent and conspicuous in the performance of his duties; was indefatigable in his labors of a most important character, both with the division commander in directing affairs and in his efforts on shore to get in communication with the Mexican authorities to avoid needlessly prolonging the conflict. For his actions he was made Chief of Staff to Rear Admiral Frank Friday Fletcher, himself a Medal of Honor recipient. Earlier in his career he had been advanced five numbers for "eminent and conspicuous conduct in battle" while serving on board the USS Gloucester. He commanded landing forces from the Gloucester at Guanica, Puerto Rico, on July 25, 1898. There he secured the landing place for the Army, hauled down the Spanish flag and hoisted the first US flag over Puerto Rico. Later the escort ship USS Huse (DE-145) was named in his honor.  (bio by: Ugaalltheway)
