Big Band trumpet player. Sought-after conductor. Entertainer for five decades. Born in the Hill District neighborhood that would become the Civic Arena site. "Hershey," (for Hebrew name, Hershel), started performing after high school. During WW II performed with orchestras at military bases and in USO shows. After the war, became a staff musician in Pittsburgh at WCAE radio, predecessor of WTAE-AM. In the 1950s, toured the U.S. with a succession of big bands. Performed at the best nightclubs with Pittsburgh singing sensation Jeanne Baxter. Led the band on Baxter's WIIC-TV show, "Jeanne's Merry-Go-Round." Died of heart failure at Toledo Hospital.  (bio by: Millennium Memorials)
