Mr. Herschel Oliver Young, 88, of Madisonville, KY, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at The Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson.

He was born June 11, 1923 in Fruithill, KY to the late O.A. Young and Lounette Stone Young. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Cozie Young and one brother, Harold Young.

Mr. Young was a Combat Medic in World War II Battle of the Bulge. He was co-owner of Young and Stickler Florist, owner of Young's Motel and Young's Real Estate.

He is survived by one daughter, Sandy (Hal) Henderson of Salem, SC; one son, Barry (Denise) Young of Madisonville; six grandchildren, Matthew (Rosie) Henderson; Blake Henderson; Amy Supper; Margaret Young; Katie (Joe) Caldwell and Rebecca Young and two great grandchildren, Bennett Supper and Olivia Supper.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Friday at St. Marys Episcopal Church in Madisonville with The Reverend Candyce Loescher. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to service time on Friday at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to the Joseph Eddie Ballard Program Funds c/o the West Kentucky Veterans Center Courtyard Fund.

During WWII, PFC Young was a member of Company C, 303rd medical Bn, 78th Division and served in the European Theater.
