US Governor. Served as Lt Governor of Indiana from 1989 to 1997 and as Governor of Indiana from 1997 to his death in office on September 13, 2003. He was attending a governor's meeting in Chicago Illinois when, on September 8, 2003, he suffered a massive stroke. He was admitted to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he died 5 days later.
