Robert was the son of John Jerman & Mary Elizabeth (Wallace) McDonald. Some of his siblings were Benjamin Byers, Dovie Edna, & Nora.
He married Maggie L. White (daughter of Thomas Hilliard & Mary Elizabeth (Ashburn) White. They had a son, Thomas Harvey, born on Oct. 14, 1902 & a daughter, Mary, born in 1905. Maggie died on April 9, 1907.
Robert's second marriage was to Drucilla L. Hughey.
Robert, age 41, & Drucilla lived in Bowie, Montague Co, TX when he registered for the WWI draft on Sept. 11, 1918. He was a minister in the Church of Christ and was farming for himself. He was described as being tall & stout, had blue eyes, & was slightly balding. Records indicate that he did not have to serve in the military.
On April 27, 1910, Robert, age 33, & Drucilla, age 39, lived in Justice Precinct 4, Montague Co, TX. He was farming. Others in the household were his son, Tom, age 7, and daughter, Mary, age 5. Also a boarder, Jim McCredy, age 15, who helped with the farming.
On April 25, 1930, Robert, age 53, & Drucilla, age 60, lived in Precinct 4, Montague Co, TX. They owned a home valued at $3000. Robert supported them by farming.
Robert, a retired minister, was a patient in Graham Hospital when he died from Uremia at 2:45 p.m. on May 4, 1951. He was 73 years old.

"R.S. MCDONALD Rites
ROBERT SIDNEY MCDONALD, 74, of Bowie, died at the home of a son in Graham, Friday, May 4, and funeral services were held at the Newport church Sunday afternoon, May 6. Minister ROSS DYE of Bowie was in charge of religious rites. Interment in the Newport cemetery was directed by the Burgess Funeral Home.
Mr. McDonald was a native Texan and spent most of his years in this section. He and his family lived near Newport about 45 years before moving to Bowie five years ago. He farmed in the Hancock community east of Newport until his health began to fail some years ago.
He was born Feb. 13, 1887, and at age of 20, he entered the gospel ministry and continued conducting religious services as long as he was able to deliver a public talk. He preached his first sermon at the Hancock school house and following that, he conducted services there regularly for seven years. He served as pastor of a Bowie Church of Christ a few months some years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. R. S. McDonald of Bowie; a son TOMMY MCDONALD of Graham, a daughter Mrs. MARY GROVES of Oslanding(?), California; a sister Mrs. JOHN BIRDVILLE of Temple, Okla., and two brothers, EDGAR MCDONALD of Forney and ARCH MCDONALD of Hultville, California."
