Mrs. Akers received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education from Lawnwood College in 1952 and her Masters in Education from the University of Virginia in 1975. She retired in 1991 from the Roanoke City School Systems after sixteen years of service.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mr. Bruce M. Akers, Tampa, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Akers, Roanoke; daughter, Margaret C. Akers, Roanoke; granddaughter, Kathryn D. Akers, Roanoke; several aunts and uncles, Mrs. Ruth C. Staton, Miss Una M. Carter, Mrs. Carol C. Howell, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin D. Carter, all of Roanoke; Mrs. Geraldine C. Crane, Boonton, N.J.; and cousins, Mrs. Julia M. Wimmer and husband John E., Roanoke; Mrs. Ruth M. Goodman, St. Petersburg, Fla.
