Organized Crime Figure. Prominent member of Detroit's first Mafia family. Born in Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily, Bosco came to Detroit around 1910 and fell in with the Giannola crime family. Peter Bosco was a capable, wealthy caporegime, owning a bakery, grocery store, and garage. His crew of soldiers were suspected of several murders, including that of Detroit Police detective Emmanuel Roggers. In the mid-1910's Bosco began the first large-scale car theft operation in Michigan, the birthplace of the automobile. Bosco's activities generated huge amounts of revenue for himself and the Giannolas, and Bosco's power soon grew to the point where his boss, Tony Giannola, began to look at him as a potential rival. The two men had a falling out in the fall of 1918, which climaxed with Bosco being shot to death inside his garage at Trumbull and Ash streets by three of his own men. This trio of killers, having been forced to murder their boss and friend by Tony Giannola, would in retaliation kill Giannola himself three months later, igniting the Giannola-Vitale gang war.
