CARLSBAD--A funeral for Cipriano "Cip" Briceno, 82, of Alvarado Street, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at San Jose Catholic Church with the Rev. Valentine Jankowski officiating. Interment will follow at Santa Catarina Cemetery.
A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at San Jose Catholic Church.
Mr. Briceno died Friday, March 17, 2000, at his home.
Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Cipriano Briceno was born Wednesday, July 11, 1917, to Franisco F. and Juliana Garcia Briceno in Marathon, Texas, where he grew up and worked in CC camps as a young man. In 1936, he moved to Carlsbad.
He married Lucia Dominguez on Feb. 28, 1938, in Carlsbad. She preceded him in death March 11, 1993, after 55 years of marriage.
He worked at IMC initially and later for National Potash where he was a refinery foreman, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Briceno was a member of San Jose Catholic Church where he was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul, Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society and volunteered in serving funeral meals.
He was an avid gardener and enjoyed the outdoors. He also enjoyed music and could play many instruments, including the piano.
Survivors include a son, Francisco "Frank" Briceno of Carlsbad; daughters, Velia Blanco of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Elvira "Vera" Romero, Anna Maria Paz and Elva Briceno of Carlsbad; sister, Simona Payanes of Carlsbad; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Francisco Briceno Jr., Alejandro Briceno, Daniel Romero, Daniel Paz, Mike Payanes and Alfonso Luna.
