Earl Alonzo "Crossfire" Moore

Baseball Player. He pitched in the Major Leagues for 14 years from 1903 to 1914 with Cleveland and New York of the American League, Philadelphia and Chicago of the National League and Buffalo in the Federal League. He led the American League with an earned run average of 1.74 in 1903 and the National League with 6 shutouts and 185 strikeouts 1n 1910. He won 22 games in 1910 and 20 in 1903. He finished his career with a record of 162 wins and 154 losses with an earned run average of 2.78. He was nicknamed "Crossfire" because of his signature pitching technique, he stood on the edges of the rubber and delivered the ball sidearmed at puzzling angles. He was also known at Lon Mower and Steam Engine in Boots. Hall of Fame Umpire Bill Klem claimed Moore was better than any pitcher he saw in 1911. He died of heart disease.
