CHARES PICKETT BURIED SUNDAY
Mr. Charles Pickett, after less than a week's illness passed away at his home southeast of McDonald last Thursday. He became quite ill the previous Friday. Mr. Pickett lived in this community for nearly fifty years, coming here in 1893 from Washington County. His many friends sincerely regret his passing.
Charles Halter(sic) Pickett, second son of O. S. and Emily Roberts Pickett, was born in Enosdale, Washington county, Kansas, November 24, 1868 and passed away Thursday, August 7, 1941, at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 14 days.
About 1882 the family moved to Missouri but after a year or two returned to Washington County Kansas. In 1892 they came to Rawlins county, Kansas where he has made his home since except for a year in Florida. Nearly all these years were spent on his farm south east of McDonald. He was born a Quaker and lived in that faith all his life. He was true to the Quaker ideals of kindness, truth and justice.
He leaves his brother William James Pickett of McDonald, eight nephews and eight nieces. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
He was taken sick Friday evening, August 1 and grew rapidly worse until about ten o'clock Thursday evening when his spirit entered the other world.
A Home in Heaven! What a joyful thought
As the poor man toils in his weary lot.
His heart oppressed, and with anguish driven
From his home below to his home in Heaven.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Federated church in charge of Reverend J. S. Coppoc. Burial was in the McDonald cemetery.
