Paul Delmas Warble, 73, of Route 1, Penn Laird, died July 4, 1996, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. He had been ill for the past three years.
He was born February 21, 1923, at McGaheysville and was the son of the late James Arthur Warble and Carrie Frances Sampson Warble. He was also raised by his stepfather, Clarence Edward Markle and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Herbert Sampson.
Mr. Warble graduated from McGaheysville High School in 1941, where he excelled in sports, especially baseball. He was a member of the
McGaheysville United Methodist Church, where he had served as a Sunday school teacher, treasurer, chairman of the Administrative Board, Church lay leader and a choir member. He was a member of the J.O.Y. Class of Valley Wellness Center, former member of the "Celebration Singers" and a former Boy Scout leader.
He worked at the Elkton Plant of Merck for 42 years, where he retired January 1, 1985.
On April 4, 1944, he married the former Nancy Kisling, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Ann and Warren Armentrout, Jane and Russell "Hondo" Lamb, both of Penn Laird; Cathy and Brian "Bo" Newman of West Richland, Washington; a sister-in-law, Louise Warble of Timberville; seven grandchildren, Angela Davis and husband, Jeff, Jason Armentrout, Karen Martz and fiancee, Kenny Southers, Rebecca Miller, James T. Puffenbarger III, Aaron
Puffenbarger, and Jennifer Newman; five great-grandchildren, Brittany Sherman, Daniel Sherman, Matthew Martz, Travis Martz and Ashley Martz; and one step-great-grandchild, G.H. Davis.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Vernon Warble, a half brother, Edgar Warble, and a half sister, Mary Warble.
A memorial service will be conducted Sunday evening 6:30 p.m. at the McGaheysville United Methodist Church by the Rev. T. Todd Smith. Burial will be private at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.
The body is at the Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, where friends may call. The family will receive friends at the Warble home any time or at the church following the service Sunday evening.
