TAFF SERGEANT JOHN C. LANESE, 37, husband
of Mrs. Rose Lanese, and son of Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Lanese, all of 4182 Mayfield
Road, South Euclid; Killed Nov. 10, (1944)
on Leyte in the Philippines.
Sergt. Lanese was inducted in 1942 and,
after training at Camp Howze, Texas, was
sent overseas last June. He was a graduate
of Brush High School, where he starred as
a football player, serving as varsity
captain one season. He was the owner
of Johnny's Tavern, 4001 Mayfield Road,
South Euclid, which is now operated by
his wife and parents.
Wrote Two Days Before Death
In his last letter home, dated Nov. 8, he
wrote: "By God's grace I am still alive."
Two days later he was killed.
In addition to his wife and parents, he
is survived by a daughter, Sandra, and
two sisters, Miss Marie Lanese, who
operates a florist shop in South Euclid;
and Sister Mary Joachim, of the Sisters
of St. Joseph, here.
