He is a native son of Ohio, and represents a family whose name has been identified with the history of this state since pioneer days and with the nation since Colonial days, the family having settled in Virginia prior to the War of the Revolution, and in Ohio in the early part of the nineteenth century.

Dawson was graduated from the Ashland (Ohio) High School in 1899, from Ohio Wesleyan University, Bachelor of Arts in 1904, and from the medical department of Western Reserve University, Doctor of Medicine, in 1908. During 1908-09 he served as interne at St. Vincent Charity Hospital, and in 1910 he entered general practice in Lakewood, specializing in obstetrics of late years.
Doctor Dawson is head of the obstetrical staff of Lakewood Hospital, is a member of the Cleveland Academy of Medicine, a member of Ohio State Medical Association and Fellow of the American Medical Association. He is a member of Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, the Clifton Club, Sleepy Hollow Country Club; Ohio Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution; and of the Church of the Ascension of Lakewood. •
Doctor Dawson married Miss Jean Backus, who was born in Dedham, Massachusetts, the daughter of Arthur Mann and Eliza Jennings (Burton) Backus. Mrs. Dawson is a graduate of Smith College. To the doctor and wife three children have been born: William Burton, born August 19, 1913; Archibald Nail, Jr., born April 26, 1917; and Elizabeth Jane, born April 29, 1921.
