Son of Elisha Clay and Martha (Weldon) Aikin. He married Emma Ella Georgia Williamson in Pike County GA. After her death in 1916, he married a woman whose last name was Bennett (first name unknown) from Barnesville GA. He served as the Pike County commissioner and tax equalizer. He was a member of the United Sacred Harp Musical Association as well as the revision committees of for the "Union Harp" (1909) and "Original Sacred Harp" (1911). He is credited with the minor rearrangement of L.P, Breedlove's Sacred Harp tune "Shepherds Rejoice" in 1908 as well as adding the alto part. He died six weeks after his marriage to his second wife.
