James Benjamin Melville
Birth: 1885
Death: May 1, 1931

British Labour Party politician. James Benjamin Melville was called to the Bar in 1906, at the Middle Temple. He became a King's Counsel in 1927. In 1929, he was elected as the Labour Member of Parliament for Gateshead, became the Solicitor General in the second Labour Government under Ramsay MacDonald, and was knighted. The following year, however, he resigned from office; and, the year after that, not only did MacDonald's government fall, but Sir Benjamin died. (bio by: Iain MacFarlaine)
