DEATH STRIKES LORENA DOCTOR

T. F. Miles, M. D., Had Practiced in That Territory for More Than Half Century When End Came

Dr. T. F. Miles, 80, who had practiced medicine in Lorena 54 years, died at his home in Lorena Saturday morning. Funeral services will be held from Lorena Methodist church at 3 p.m. Sunday, Rev. Brown Lloyd and Dr. W. W. Ward officiating, burial in the Lorena cemetery with Wilkirson-Hatch in charge. Surviving are his widow, a sister, Mrs. Elvie Marquis of McGregor, two daughters, Mrs. Henry Quinius of Waco and Mrs. Pascal Stanford of Laredo.

Pallbearers will be Wilson B. Albert, W. W. Stanford, Fowler Graves, Ed Jones, Fred Stewart, D. L. Bowers, all of Lorena, R. M. Ligon and W. M. Sleeper, Waco.

Born in Montgomery, Ala., Dr. Miles came to San Antonio in 1867, to Bruceville in 1868, and graduated from Tulane medical school, and had practiced in Lorena since 1884. In 1885 he married Miss Tedie Sleeper, who died in 1895, and in 1919 married Miss Willie Majors.

Thomas Franklin Miles, son of A. B. and Nancy (Lock) Miles, was born at Montgomery, Alabama, on February 28, 1858. He attended the common schools and studied Latin and Greek classics. The family moved to San Antonio, Texas, in 1867 and a year later settled in McLennan County near Bruceville. He taught for several years, then entered Vanderbilt University and received his medical degree from Tulane University. He began his practice at Eddy and later moved to Lorena. In 1907 he retired from the medical profession to devote his time to his financial affairs. He helped organize the First National Bank of Lorena and in 1908 was elected president of the bank. He also owned 4,000 acres of Texas farm lands.

Miles married Theodora [Theodore "Tedie"] Sleeper of Mississippi on June 24, 1885; they were the parents of five children. After her death in 1895, he married Willie Majors in 1919. He died on May 7, 1938, at Lorena, and was buried in the Lorena cemetery.
