Daniel Eugene Carpenter was born to Edward Hazard and Almira Malona Stevens Carpenter. Daniel was one of eight children, Victoria Lucy, Amanda Alla, Royal Brant, Ulysses Sylvester, Edward Elmer, Frank Henry and Raymond.
Daniel Eugene married Julia Soule on November 10, 1876 and from this union there were four children: Queenie Belle, Minnie Blanche, George Ebbin and Sylvester. His occupations started in Hot Springs, South Dakota, being employed for two years in driving a mule team in the Black Hills for the government. He did this until 1880 when in
Seward, Nebraska, Daniel was employed as a fireman for the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad. He was with this company at the time of the two strikes in 1888. His brother Sylvester worked as a helper in a roundhouse. In 1885, Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska, Daniel continued work for the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad and in 1884 was promoted to engineer. Around 1890, Daniel and his younger brother Sylvester came to La Grande, Oregon and was employed there as an engineer for the Oregon Railroad & Navigation Co. In 1896, Daniel moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, where he was employed on a passenger train between Grand Junction and Helper, Utah. He was considered one of the best and oldest men on the railroad. In 1910, he is still in Grand Junction, and continuing to work as a locomotive engineer. In 1920, Daniel is still in Grand Juction, Co, working as a locomotive engineer. Daniel Jr.(son) worked as a locomotive fireman.
1920 has Daniel and his wife in Santa Cruz, CA. Julie dies in 1922.
