She was born Oct. 9, 1935, in Walhalla, N.D., the daughter of John and Evelyn (Richotte) Anderson of Norwegian and French heritage. She was baptized in the Catholic church in Walhalla and confirmed at the Catholic church in Browns Valley.
She received her education in Walhalla. On Jan. 13, 1952, she was united in marriage to Roger Galbreath in Sisseton, S.D. The couple resided in Fergus Falls and traveled extensively while working in road construction.
She then married LeRoy Helvick. They made their home in Crookston where Ida worked as a waitress. She also worked in housekeeping at nursing homes in Moorhead and Bagley.
Her hobbies included sewing, embroidery, crocheting, reading and flower gardening. She particularly enjoyed the company of her cat, Sassy.
She is survived by four children: Melinda (Richard) Fields of Kentucky, Delila (Charles) Dillabough, Detroit Lakes, Rene Sebens of North Dakota, and Randy Helvick, Sioux Falls, S.D.; six sisters and one brother: Laura Fowler, Fergus Falls, Alma Goetzinger, Seattle, Wash., Beverly Schunaman, Watertown, S.D., Leonard Lureen, Fergus Falls, Florence Lureen, Fergus Falls, Mavis Shirreff, Pelican Rapids and Teresa Zach, Fergus Falls; along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation: Two hours prior to the funeral service
