Western Outlaw, Frontiersman. He was known as Bill Williams in Texas, fought during the Civil War, was a Texas Ranger, a hunter under Buffalo Bill Cody and a deadly gunslinger. The moniker "Buckshot" came from a load of buckshot which crippled his left arm. During the Lincoln County War New Mexico, he was a member of the Dolan group who ambushed and killed John Tunstall. On April 4, 1878, "The Regulators" under constable Dick Brewer stopped at Blazer's Mill for a meal. Others in this group were, George Coe, Charlie Bowdre, John Middleton and Billy the Kid. Shortly after their arrival Buckshot Roberts wandered into their midst. Bowdre pulled a gun and ordered Roberts to surrender, but he said "Not much, Mary Ann," whipped up his rifle and the shooting begin. He killed Middleton, wounded Coe and the Kid. He himself was shot in the abdomen by Bowdre. By now they were all outside, firing and hitting nothing. Dick Brewer, tried to maneuver into position when he was fatally shot in the head by Roberts. Shortly after, the rest of the Regulators scattered and rode off leaving Roberts who died the next day from his wound. Ironically, it was later proved he had nothing to do with killing Tunstall.
