Born January 5, 1925 in Wedgefield, SC, he was a son of the late Carl V. and Agnes Wheeler Wilkes, Sr. Carl served his country in the United States Air Force and then attended Clemson University. He then worked as an installer for Western Electric for 32 years. Mr. Wilkes was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church and will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid Clemson fan.
Surviving are his wife, Callie Rogers Wilkes, a son, Victor G. Wilkes of Edgefield, a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Wilkes of Lamar, grandchildren: David (Jennifer) Cribb, Shawn (Ashlee) Wilkes, Gene (Kellie) Wilkes, James Wilkes and Crystal (Chance) Chapman; great-grandchildren: Megan, David, Emy, Michael, Marleigh, Bella and Abbie.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Wilkes and sisters, Mary W. Moore and Dorcas W. Batten.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at Belk Funeral Home, LAMAR.
