Mr. Long was a 42 year employee of the Alcoa Company, retiring as a scale clerk in 1993. In addition, he also farmed near New Liberty, Ia., for many years. He was a member of the Alcoa Retirees Club and a former member of the Aluminum, Brick & Glassworkers Union Local 105. His work on the farm was one of his favorite pastimes and he expecially enjoyed caring for his animals. Survivors include his wife, Joan; a daughter, Christine Sidders and husband, Shawn, Peoria, Ill; a son, Loren Long Jr., Davenport, Ia.; grandchildren, Justin and Zachary Sidders, Cody Long and Travis Leggett. Another grandson is expected soon. Other survivors include his sisters, Pauline Gallant and Marilyn Roach, both of Canton, and Janell Boltz and husband, Fred, Keokuk, Ia.; a brother, Raymond Long and wife, Susie, Lisbon, Ia.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Harold Long; his daughter, Sharon Ann Long; a sister, Alice Walters; and two brothers, Huston Long and Robert Long.
Visitation was held Monday, July 7, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Ia. Funeral services were Tuesday, July 8, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel.
