Julius was born in the Brushy Fork area of Harrison Co., Virginia (WV) to Josiah and Martha Stout Davisson. He was a farmer. He married Nancy Ann Willis (b. ca 1803 in the Elk River area to William and Anna Willis) on/after 21 May 1823 in Harrison County. He and Nancy lived in Ten Mile Township, raising nine children: Sarah, Granville (1825 - 16 Feb. 1898, m. Mary Brown 3 December 1846 in Harrison County), Theodore, Roana/Rhuanna (1829/30 - 16 September 1903, m. Jacob Swentzel 12 August 1858), Edgar, Nancy (#65643252), Preston, Margaret Elizabeth (b. October 1838, married Edward J. Chaplin 9 February 1868), and James. A few years after his wife died of cancer (in August 1869), Julius moved to Doddridge County to stay with his son, Theodore.
