|Death: ||Nov. 1, 1864|
Son of John Dunn and Ann Harkins. Husband of Eveline Guthrie and father to Sybil, Harriet, Eveline and William Herbert Dunn.
William was the Captain of the dispatch boat, Dime, during the Civil War, stationed in Natchez, Mississippi. He drowned while in the performance of duty. He had just received a message to proceed to the relief of a sinking boat. In going from the lower deck to the upper deck, the ladder he was climbing gave way and he was cast into the river. He was injured and the swift current towed him under. He was later recovered down stream. The body was shipped to Chicago and interred in Graceland Cemetery.
