William Lawrence Scott
Birth: Jul. 2, 1828
Death: Sep. 19, 1891

US Congressman. Born in Washington, D.C., he attended Hampden-Sidney Academy in Virginia and was a page in the House of Representatives, (1840-46). He moved to Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1846, where was successful in iron manufacturing, banking, had extensive land holdings, raised cattle and served as Major of Erie, (1866, 1871). He was a member of the Democratic National Committee in (1876, 1880, 1884) and delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in (1876, 1880,1888). In 1885, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-ninth and Fiftieth Congresses, serving until 1889, when he declined to be a candidate because of the condition of his health. He died at age 63 in Newport, Rhode Island. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
