US Congressman, US Senator. Elected to represent Kentucky's 6th and 7th Districts and as At-Large in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1925 to 1929, and 1931 to 1949. He was defeated as Democratic in 1928. Also served as a United States Senator from Kentucky from 1949 until his death in 1951. He died on March 8, 1951, from injuries he received in an automobile accident. (bio by: K)
