Orpha Lola Nash was the daughter of Albert Rozelle and Mary Elizabeth (McKee) Nash.
She married Gerald Leo McPherson January 2, 1909 at Oswego, Labette county, Kansas. At the time of their marriage, Gerald was aged 23 and Orpha was aged 21. He was living at Bartlett, Labette County, and she at Faulkner, Cherokee County, Kansas.
Gerald and Orpha McPherson had two daughters Vera May and Alma Faye and raised Gerald's nephew, Clayton Landrith. Later in life they helped Vera raise her three children as well.
After they married, Gerald and Orpha purchased a farm west of Chetopa. Orpha's health was failing in 1926 from the heavy farm work and they moved to Kansas City, Missouri and lived there for the next 25 years. Gerald worked at the Corn Products Karo Syrup factory and they purchased a home in Kansas City. They leased their farm and never gave up ownership.
About 1933 or 1934 the family that had been leasing the farm in Kansas suddenly left and Gerald and Orpha with Clayton (nephew) and Vera quickly returned to the farm to care for the abandoned livestock. Gerald soon had to return to Kansas City to his job and Orpha, Clayton and Vera stayed while Clayton attended his junior and senior year of high school. After Clayton's graduation another renter was found and they returned to Kansas City and lived there until Gerald retired.
In 1951 Gerald and Orpha moved back to "Locust Lane Farm" and farmed until their advanced years forced them to move into the town of Chetopa.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald McPherson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary 4 Jan 1959 at their home, two and one-half miles west of Chetopa on Highway 166.
Orpha was a strong Christian who had strong faith and belief in God. She was a member of the Chetopa First Baptist Church.
