Leland S. McCullough Sr., 80, of North Beaver Twp. died on Thursday, April 22, 2010, at the Masternick Memorial Health Care Center in New Middletown, Ohio, following an extended illness.

Born Aug. 29, 1929, in New Galilee, he was a son of the late William H. and Stella Gilkey McCullough. Leland retired after 40 years in the coal and limestone mining industry. He worked as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator. He was also a lifelong farmer.

Mr. McCullough was an active member of the Westfield Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, former trustee, member of the Fife Bible Class, and a longtime member of the choir. Leland attended McAnlis School and then graduated in 1948 from Mt. Jackson High School. He was a member of the Meridian Lodge #411 Free and Accepted Masons and the Big Beaver Grange.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Byers McCullough; two sons, Leland S. (Cindy) McCullough Jr., David (Phyllis) McCullough, both of North Beaver Township; two daughters, Karen (Dan) Gwin of North Beaver Township, Lori (Jim) Scott of Little Beaver Township; a sister, Geraldine Breen of Cleveland; and 10 grandchildren; Mark McCullough, Matthew McCullough, Justin (Elizabeth) McCullough, Emily McCullough, Katherine, Will and Alex Scott, Megan (Todd) Glass, and Leighann and Scott Gwin.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Paul and Thomas McCullough; and three sisters, Pauline Brown, Wanda Boyer and Thelma Lamson.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main St., Wampum. A funeral Service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Westfield Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Robert Bardeen officiating. Burial will follow in the Westfield Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Westfield Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 1363 Mount Jackson Road, New Castle, Pa. 16102.
