Edward Donald Bellew
Birth: Oct. 28, 1882
Death: Feb. 1, 1961

World War I Victoria Cross War Medal Recipient. Served as a Captain, 7th Battalion, British Columbia Regiment, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He was awarded his medal for service at Belgium on April 24, 1915 at the battle of St. Julien near Ypres, where chemical gas warfare was used for the first time in combat. Captain Bellew and a sergeant manned a machine gun and held off the oncoming enemy forces long enough for reinforcements to arrive, thus saving the position and the day.
