KATHARINA GROSS -
She was born in an isolated parish named, Zendersch; tucked away into the rolling hills of the mountainous region of Mures, Romania. At the time of her birth, this region was HUNGARY, but reverted to ROMANIA, at the end of World War I. KATHARINA, was the first daughter born to ANDREAS & KATHARINA (GIERSCHER) GROSS, and as tradition was; the first daughter was named after her mother, thus, KATHARINA GROSS, was born in 1902, joining a brother, GEORG GROSS, who had been born 21 Jun 1900, in Zendersch, Mures, Romania. In 1906, her mother, KATHARINA (GIERSCHER) GROSS, left her homeland; immigrating to America, seeking a better live for herself. She left behind her husband, ANDREAS GROSS, and her two young children, son, GEORG GROSS, and daughter, KATHARINA GROSS; with the hope of sending for them to join her in America. Her mother, KATHARINA (GIERSCHER) GROSS, obtained a divorce from her father, ANDREAS GROSS, in 1907, retaining her maiden name of GIERSCHER. Her mother, KATHARINA (GIERSCHER) GROSS GIERSCHER, settled in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, PA., USA., where she had two additional children, which were half-siblings to KATHARINA GROSS, and her brother, GEORG GROSS, both living in Romania. Her mother, KATHARINA (GIERSCHER) GROSS GIERSCHER, first had a daughter, SERI JANE GIRSCHER, born 27 Nov 1907, in Monaca, Beaver, PA. Followed by a little brother, MICHAEL WILLIAM GIRSCHER, born in June 1909, in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, PA; referred to as BILL. All the years that followed, KATHARINA (GIERSCHER) GROSS GIERSCHER, remained in contact with her first two born children, GEORG & KATHARINA, in Romania. With letters, she sent money when able; always with the dream of bringing them to America, to join her. That dream was never fulfilled.
KATHARINA GROSS, went on to marry HANS SALLMANN. During World War II, they immigrated to GERMANY. KATHARINA (GROSS) SALLMANN, died in Ergersheim, Bavaria, Germany, date unknown. They had no children.
