The daughter of William E. Dodd the United States' ambassador to Germany July 1933-December 1937. Martha moved to Berlin with her father when he took up his position as the American ambassador there. In 1939 she published a book on her experiences in Nazi Gemany titled 'Through Embassy Eyes' and later in 1941 edited with her brother 'Ambassador Dodd's Diary, 1933-1938.' Finally in 1945 Martha Dodd published a novel based on Nazi Germany in 1945 and titled 'Sowing the Wind.' Dodd, her husband and son fled to Prague in Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) to avoid having to testify in several high profile espionage cases and never returned to the U.S.
