Services for Lester J. Herron, 64, of Fairview, Smiths Ferry RD 1, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Cannon Funeral Home in Midland. The Rev. George H. Bohlender, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church at Midland, will officiate. Burial will be in the Bethel United Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Enon Valley. Mr. Herron met death shortly before noon Friday after jumping from the Shippingport Bridge. Dr. Mearl Bozett, deputy Beaver County coroner, ruled the death a suicide and said Mr. Herron died of a fractured neck suffered when he hist the water. Midland Police Chief Vincent D'Itri said Mr. Herron left a note in his car. He was born Sept.4, 1903, in East Liverpool and had resided in the Midland area virtually his lifetime. He worked as a crane operator in the heat treat department of the Midland Divison of the Crucible Steel Corp., for years. He formerly operated a dairy store in Midland and at one time was manager of the A. & P. market there. He belonged to the Midland First Presbyterian Church and its board of Trustees, Steelworkers Local 1212 and the Fairview Grange. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Edna Mae Herron, at home; a son Eugene J. Herron of Moon Township; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Bailey of Midland, Mrs. Kenneth (Edna Mae) Treleven of Chester and Mrs. Donald (Margie) Rearic of Buffalo, N. Y., eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 tonight.
