Andra Jane Crippen was born in Wrangell, Alaska Territory to Berkeley and Margaret Sturtevant and died in Wrangell, State of Alaska. She was Tlingit of the Basket Bay Deisheetaan, and a great-great-granddaughter of Chief George Gunyah of Tuxekan.

Andra attended school in Wrangell and Seattle, was a cheerleader at Wrangell High, and went to college in Fort Collins, Colorado and Seattle University. She worked in Anchorage and Valdez for Fluor Corporation on the pipeline.

Andra married James W. Crippen in Wrangell on July 2, 1977 at the Presbyterian Church. They settled in Anchorage where they owned a mechanical contracting and engineering firm. Following the birth of their son James, Andra managed the architectural engineering office. She then worked for the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Oil and Gas. Andra retired in 2008 to care for her mother.

Her death of cardiac arrest was sudden. She left behind her husband, son James, his wife Veronica, granddaughter Alyssa Kapella, and many friends and relatives across Alaska. Andra is survived by her brother Andrew, uncle Arnold "Cappy" and aunt Alice Bakke, and aunt Lois Hope of Wrangell, and aunts Seena Watson of Seattle and Yvonne Stough of Sitka. Her cousins are James, Mike, C.R., Helen, Arnold and Ruthie. Andra's last gift was to be an organ donor.

She will be interred at Wrangell Sunset Gardens near her parents. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Wrangell Volunteer Fire Department. Published in adn.com from September 17 to September 18, 2011
