Paul E. Angers, 77, of Laurel Street in Sanford, passed peacefully on October 14, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Paul endured many illnesses over the last 10 years and "fought the good fight" to the very end. He is now in peace and comfort of our Lord and suffers no more. "Thank you," God!

Paul was born in Biddeford on August 17, 1931, a son of Alphonse and Rose (Mongeau) Angers. He attended Sanford Schools.

Mr. Angers served in the Army National Guard of Maine from 1952 to 1955. He worked for 14 years as a "top notch" machinist at Pratt & Whitney, retiring after 14 years of dedicated employment.

Paul's pleasure in life was being in the comfort of his home and taking rides in his Dodge pickup truck with his loving wife of 59 years. He loved to ride the country roads looking for deer and wild turkeys; in his earlier, healthy years, he loved to hunt deer and took great pride in his gun collection. Paul was an avid Red Sox fan.

He was a very quiet, laid-back man but spoke his mind if he was challenged on an opinion.

He will be sadly missed by his family and all who were very close to him.

Family survivors include his wife, Josephine Angers, of Sanford; his children, Marlene Angers, of Sanford, Linda (Angers) Normand and her husband, Paul, of Alfred, and Ronald Angers and his wife, Julia, of Tennessee; two sisters, Lucille, of Florida, and Lorraine, of Connecticut; one brother, Leon, of Connecticut; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Kathleen, a son, Lawrence, as well as 3 brothers, Camille, Marcel and Raymond, and 2 sisters, Georgette and Onita.

Relatives and friends called on Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Autumn Green Funeral Home in Alfred, where a prayer service was held on Monday, Oct. 20. Committal prayers and burial followed at St. Ignatius Cemetery on Twombley Road in Sanford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Paul's memory to the following: The American Diabetes Association, 80 Elm Street, Portland, Maine 04101; The American Heart Association , 51 U.S. Route One, Suite M, Scarborough, Maine 04074; or the Maine Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 553, Portland, Maine 04112.

Our family extends our special thanks and gratitude for the special care and compassion received from Dr. Abraham and Dr. Gerry, of Sanford, Dr. Antonio, of Portland, and all the caring hearts and hands at Goodall Hospital and Maine Medical Center. The Autumn Green Funeral Home respectfully handled arrangements. Published in Fosters from October 23 to October 24, 2008
