Van Harold Austin, 65, of Marion, passed away Monday, April 19, 2004 in Barstro, Calif.

He was born at home in McDowell County on June 28, 1938 to the late William Flint Austin and Lessie Honeycutt Austin. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. Van was a construction worker for 45 years.

He was the husband of the late Bessie Marie Austin and the brother of four sisters, including the late Margie Shell and Vergie Waycaster.

Surviving are two sisters, Thelema Trent and Dorothy Frazier; one brother, Lee Austin of Delaware; children, Cynthia Crisp, Gidget Sutton of Florida, Gail Piche, Patty Anne Seuss of Florida, Bobby Wert of Florida, Craig Austin and Joey Austin. There are 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Mount Calvary Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, May 8, 2004 at 11 a.m.
