Virginia Ellen Helleseth, daughter of Raymond Lowrie and Margaret M. Beaver-Crook Henderson, was born May 25, 1947, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She departed this life Friday, September 23, 2011, in St. John's Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of sixty-four years, three months, and twenty-eight days.
On August 23, 1969, she was united in marriage to Thomas LeeRoy Helleseth, and to this union one daughter and one son were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas, on February 8, 2010; and a sister, Ila Eileen Babcock.
Virginia is survived by a son, Thomas LeeRoy Helleseth II, of Marshfield, Missouri; a daughter, Laura Marie Bradshaw, and her husband, Darrell, of Marshfield, Missouri; three grandchildren, Kaylyn, Darrell, II, and Layla; three brothers, Robert R. Henderson, of Plover, Iowa; Kenneth J. Henderson, and his wife, Mary, of Eufaula, Oklahoma; and Ray E. Henderson, and his wife, Joyce, of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Linda M. Branch, of Panama City, Florida; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in Iowa, and graduated from Plover/Havelock High School. She then moved to Mobile, Alabama, where she worked as a secretary at Brookley Air Force Base. After returning to Iowa, she worked as a secretary at Iowa State University and for a publishing company. She met Thomas and they were soon married. They reported to Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona, where both children were born. After Thomas was discharged from the Air Force, the family lived in Panama City, Florida, until moving to Lebanon, Missouri. During these years, Virginia was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. Virginia once again returned to her career as a secretary and worked for the First Assembly of God in Lebanon for seventeen years. She later was employed by St. John's Hospital Emergency Department in Springfield, Missouri. For the last few months, Virginia had made her home in Marshfield, Missouri.
Virginia professed her faith in Christ when she was six years old, and joined the Open Bible Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa. While living in Lebanon, Missouri, she was an active member of First Assembly of God. Her faith was always the center point of her life.
In her spare time she enjoyed researching her family's Scottish heritage and genealogy. One of her interesting philosophies on life was, "Life is uncertain, eat dessert first". Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Virginia was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout the years.
