When seven years old, in 1852, he came to America with his parents, brothers and sisters. After residing in Illinois for three years, the parents & children moved to Clinton County. Here in 1871 he was united in marriage to Miss Friederike Guebel. The first two years of married life were spent in Missouri. From here they moved to Jones County, Iowa, where they spent the rest of their life.
They were parents of seven children, five boys and two girls:

Hans H. married Frederica Sieveke, Mar 4, 1908
Ernest F. married Elsie Levsen Dec. 20, 1906
Toni married Nicolas Holst, Apr. 29, 1908
Albert G.
Minna H.
Otto G.
