World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Gweedore, Ireland, he served as a Private in the 6th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, British Army. In actions at Kereina Peak, Palestine on December 27, 1917, while the company was holding a very exposed position, Private Duffy, a stretcher-bearer, and another stretcher-bearer went out to bring in a seriously wounded comrade. When the other stretcher-bearer was wounded, Private Duffy returned to get another man, who was killed almost immediately. Private Duffy then went forward alone under very heavy fire and succeeded in getting both wounded men under cover and attended to their injuries. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross. He died in Drumany, Ireland, at age 79. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
