Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He died as a POW in the Confederate Prison at Andersonville, Georgia. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army in Company B, 59th New York Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. His citation reads "Capture of flag of a Georgia regiment." (bio by: Don Morfe)

How tiny the ground a prison built for 10,000 swelled to 33,000 before war's end. I visited for the first time yesterday. What horrid conditions. Sweet water branch is still to this day contaminated by the sinks bacteria after 150 years. What you poor...(Read more)
