Patrick Maher died a hero. After serving 20 years in the US coast Guard, 7 years in Hawaii, and 7 months in Washington, Maher lost his life while doing his duty. He died while trying to save two lives. The man accused of killing him, struggled with Maher before grabbing his gun and shooting him in the stomach. The bullet went under his bullet proof vest.
Washington state, is devastated. Nearly 4000 officers attended his funeral on August 7, 2003. He was a husband, and a father to three children.
He was known for saving lives. He died our hero.
