Elected as a Jacksonian to represent New York's 11th District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1825 to 1827. He did not seek a second term. Ashley was born in Winchester, New Hampshire, where he was engaged in leather manufacturing and served as village clerk (1811) and justice of the peace (1817). He then moved his business to Catskill, New York, becoming chairman of the town's Association of Tanners (1825) and President of its Board of Trustees (1828 until his death). (bio by: Bobb Edwards)
